Protein Supplements & Hair Loss
Become part of our national study on protein supplements and hair loss
Initial Study
Our clinical study of 100 people has concluded that whey protein isolate, which is the main ingredient in many protein supplement products may be tied to increased risk of premature hair loss.
Whey Protein Isolate
Whey protein isolate contains highly concentrated levels of amino acids. As the body digests them, the result is increased levels of testosterone. This higher level of testosterone is actually an imbalance in the normal hormone levels. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the result of the metabolism of testosterone in the body -- and, correspondingly, high levels of DHT have been shown to contribute to accelerated hair loss.
61% of Participants Report Significant Improvement
In our initial study, we substituted a nutritionally enhanced whey protein concentrate, Help Hair Whey Protein, which is a more gentle and natural form of protein that the body can metabolize more easily, and which apparently does not create this hormonal imbalance. The results of the study were astounding! 94% of the subjects had moderate improvement in their hair's appearance after using the product, as recommended, for four weeks. 61% reported significant improvement.
Consumers, both men and women, who are taking protein supplements need to be aware that while they may seeing an increase in muscle mass due to the unnaturally high protein content, they are risking accelerated hair loss!
