Anabolics & Hair Loss Risk Shown in New S.H.A.P.I.R.O Chart

Click to see SHAPIRO chartThe connections between the use of anabolics and hair loss are shown in the new Shapiro High Anabolic Profile Index Ratings and Overview (S.H.A.P.I.R.O) chart. Anabolics are substances that alter hormones in the human body, such as anabolic steroids, DHEA, growth hormones, creatine, certain amino acids, and whey protein isolate. Hair Transplant Physicians World-Wide Are Learning AFR(TM) Techniques

Hair transplant physicians world-wide are taking additional training to become AFR(TM) Hair Transplant Physicians. They are utilizing specific anabolic profile screening and a special whey protein concentrate shake to get better results with hair transplants. AFR is an acronym for Accelerated Follicular Restoration(TM).

The first step of this method involves first screening a hair transplant candidate to see if they are eating or ingesting products that may alter the hormones. Most cases of hair loss are hormone-related.

For example. male pattern balding seems to be accelerated by increases in testosterone (linked to DHT) in genetically-prone individuals. Anabolics are chemicals that alter hormones, such as anabolic steroids, creatine, growth hormones, Continue reading

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Strip Combination for Hair Transplants

Dr. Shapiro is pioneering a new “FUE/Strip/AFR™ combo” method of hair transplantation to mitigate problems associated with Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a hair transplant method that involves removing individual follicular units (hair follicles) from the “donor” part of the scalp. The follicular units are quickly graded and then transplanted into balding areas of the scalp.

The problems with FUEs are that this method of harvesting hair follicles can cause scarring and also damage surrounding hair follicles. It takes a highly skilled hair transplant surgeon with excellent equipment to minimize these problems.

Dr. Shapiro believes he may have discovered ways to mitigate the problems associated >>Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Strip Combination for Hair Transplants

Open Paper on Hair Loss and Whey Protein Isolate Presented at International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery Regional Conference

Dr. ShapiroDr.  Shapiro presented an open paper on the connection between hair loss and a common workout/nutritional supplement, whey protein isolate, at the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) Regional Conference in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday, May 14, 2011.

At “The Next Big Thing: Hair Research and Advanced Live Surgery Workshop,” the hair restoration surgeons and researchers gathered to explore the latest research on hair biology, watch live advanced FUE surgery demos, examined ACell applications and more. The conference focused on the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method. This ISHRS Regional Workshop is hosted by Melike Kulahci, MD.

Dr. Shapiro’s paper examined the connection between hair loss and lifestyle products, especially anabolics that elevate testosterone and DHT. These lifestyle products include steroids, creatine, growth hormones, weight gainers and whey protein isolate.

Dr. Shapiro wanted to develop a product for working out that did not cause hair loss. >>Open Paper on Hair Loss and Whey Protein Isolate

Should I Get a Follicular Unit Extraction – FUE or Punch – Hair Transplant?

Question: I want to address my male pattern balding, and I have visited a hair transplant surgeon. He said he would use Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE, to get “donor” hair off the back of my head. Then, he’ll transplant that hair into the balding areas on top. Is FUE the way to go? I have heard of the “strip” method but I’m not sure which is best.

Dr. Shapiro, Hair Transplant Doctor Answers: Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) has some built-in problems, however, I am developing ways to mitigate these problems.

What is FUE? (Follicular Unit Extraction) The individual follicular units are taken directly from the donor area. The hair transplant doctor creates small circular incisions in the skin near the upper part of the follicular unit using a 1-mm punch. These units are then directly removed from the patients scalp.

The FUE method uses a punch to extract the hair follicles. The edges of the punch can damage surrounding tissue, which can cause causing Continue reading
